aftercare instructions

** Every tattoo artist has their own preferred after-care methods. These are how I suggest you care for a tattoo**

~Please don’t hesitate to ask if you have any questions~

- SECOND SKIN INSTRUCTIONS

Second skin is a breathable adhesive bandage often used to protect fresh tattoos during the initial healing phase.

Immediately After Getting the Tattoo:

• Keep the second skin on for -  24 hours, if you are changing sheets.                                               -  up to 4 days, if not changing sheets.

• Second skin is showerproof, but be careful not to soak or submerge.

After Removing Second Skin:

• Gently remove the second skin in the shower. Pull it off slowly, starting from one corner. Warm water helps make removal easier.

• Clean the tattoo with lukewarm water and a mild, unscented plain soap. Use your hand (no washcloths or sponges).

• Pat dry with preferably paper towels, not toilet paper,  or let it air dry. (Air dry if changing to another sheet)

• After the second skin is removed, apply a thin layer of aftercare product. I advise Palmer’s Cocoa Butter, 2 to 3 times a day after washing.

• Avoid direct sun, swimming for 2-3 weeks.

- CLING FILM INSTRUCTIONS

Cling film (plastic wrap) is another common method for tattoo aftercare, but requires a bit more maintenance.

Immediately After Getting the Tattoo:

• Leave the cling film on for 2-4 hours after the tattoo is finished. This protects the area from bacteria and prevents it from drying out.

• After this time, remove the cling film.

After Removing Cling Film:

• Clean the tattoo with lukewarm water and mild, unscented plain soap.

• Pat dry with a paper towel (not toilet paper) or let it air dry.

• Let the tattoo breathe, leaving it uncovered.

• Apply a thin layer of aftercare product. I advise Palmer’s Cocoa Butter.

Additional Wrapping:

I recommend wrapping the tattoo overnight with cling film during the first few nights.

• Clean the tattoo again before re-wrapping.

• Remove the wrap the next morning and continue with regular cleaning and moisturizing.

General Care:

• Clean the tattoo 2-3 times a day.

• Apply aftercare product 2-3 times a day, until after tattoo has fully peeled

• Avoid soaking the tattoo, sun exposure, and tight clothing on the area for at least 2 weeks.

Tips for Both Methods:

• Do not scratch or pick at scabs or peeling skin.

• Avoid swimming pools, hot tubs, and direct sun exposure.

• Wear loose clothing to prevent friction on the tattoo.
